Four Wheel Drive System

Four-Wheel Drive System Description

Four-wheel drive vehicles utilize a drivetrain system which supplies power to all four wheels simultaneously. They all use a transfer case located between the two differentials. This keeps all four tires spinning at the same rate. It also transfers the torque from the engine to the axles and wheels to provide superior tractor regardless of weather conditions or surface condition. There are many different four-wheel configurations which can be applied to meet the needs of the driver. Some four-wheel configurations use technologies such as locking differentials. When this is employed, both tires on the same axle turn at exactly the same rate with the same torque. This provides them with superior traction. There is another configuration known as a limited-slip differential. This detects when tires slip or slide and sends more torque in an attempt to regain lost traction.

The manual hubs, mean drivers have to manually apply them. The automatic hubs can be engaged by electronic or mechanical means depending upon the configuration. Our team of experts have thorough knowledge of all configurations.

Four-Wheel Drive System Benefits

Most mechanical things operate better when they are properly maintained. The same goes for four-wheel drive systems. In order to keep the highest level of performance, regular maintenance is critical. Relying on the owner’s manual, you should schedule maintenance visits at proper intervals. Four-wheel drive systems wear at different rates depending upon the vehicle use and the environment it is used in. It is important drivers pay attention to the way the vehicle behaves while driving and listen to odd noises when the vehicle is in gear. They should also pay attention to vibrations and watch for warning lights on the dashboard.
