Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Description

It is important to follow proper tire pressure guidelines to keep all occupants safe during operation. The TPMS system or Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides valuable functions during vehicle operation. This includes improving safe operation of the vehicle, limiting tire tread wear, shortening the necessary braking distance, and improving the vehicle’s fuel efficiency. The two types of TPMS systems are known as direct and indirect. The first type known as a Direct Tire Pressure Monitoring System utilizes a sensor system which transfers information to the vehicle computer regarding tire pressure. The indirect Tire Pressure Monitoring System determines tire pressure through the anti-lock braking system of your vehicle. It determines the speed of the tire rotation as it speeds up or slows down. Regardless of the type of TPMS system your vehicle has, it is important to have it serviced regularly.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Benefits

By continually monitoring tire pressure, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides information about the tire pressure of each tire. When it detects that tire pressure has dropped below the recommended level, it records the information and sends a signal to the dashboard indicator light. When the indicator light begins to flash it is important to check the tire pressure. The tire should be filled to the appropriate tire pressure. When this is done the indicator light will go out. If it does not, it is important to come to see us so we can check the sensors and replace them if they are bad. During a Tire Pressure Monitoring System test, we will run a variety of tests to ensure the system is operating at maximum efficiency. We want to make sure it is working correctly, replacing any damaged components. This might mean replacing seal washers, valve caps, nuts, seals, and valve cores.
